The world is turning ever so quickly. Technology is the only way to keep up with an ever expanding world of digital information. What better way to feed students knowledge and foster their natural inquisitive nature, then through the technological advances offered.
I have 39 minds, spread between two classes, for math & science.
They love to ask why! It has become the "cool" thing to be an inquisitor. My students have learned to relate their background knowledge to the world around them. We are a public elementary school. We have computers, but technology has outgrown the basic p.c.
My Project
When Thomas Edison was asked, "Why did you not quit after 2,000 failed attempts of creating the light bulb?" He responded, "I did not fail 2,000 times. I learned 2,000 ways on how not to create a light bulb." It is this kind of thinking that I try and inspire amongst my students.
By nature, students are inquisitive. They look at the world around them and WONDER why? That is the first, and most crucial, step of the scientific process. I encourage my students, not just to ask why, but to come up with a logical explanation. My students understand, the explanation does not have to be correct...it only has to be logical. By "logical" I mean as long as they can rationally apply their background knowledge to support their hypothesis.
An i-pad will foster there inquisitive minds by allowing them to research their question through various apps and either prove/disprove their hypothesis.
Although, my students have become scientific thinkers in school...an ipad will help facilitate my students to become scientific thinker outside the boundries of public education.
It will allow them to see how learning can take place EVERYWHERE through EVERYTHING...by asking one simple question, "why?"
