I work at a Title I school. A majority of my students are English Language Learners. Most of my students don't have access to technology at home. The only opportunity they have to explore technology is in the classroom.
I am trying to create students that are design thinkers and problem solvers.
Every week we have a deep learning task that involves a real world problem. My students are obsessed with STEAM and solving real world problems.
Our school is a STEAM school. We are participating in a global partnership with New Pedagogies for Deep Learning. We are able to connect with classrooms around the world to solve real world problems.
My Project
My students need a Hatchbox 3D printer and filament to help them bring their designs to life. We do a lot of deep learning lessons in our classroom, and a 3D printer will help us solve real world problems. We will print our designs to solve real world problems, and products to help us with our STEM lessons. We have been studying about starting a business in our Language Arts curriculum. We invented a product that will help others, and we made it out of recycled material. We would love to create it using a 3D printer.
This 3D printer will teach my students how to collaborate, to be creative, to be a digital citizen, to use communication skills, and to be critical thinkers.
The 3D printer will be a way to engage those reluctant learners. There are multiple students who won't miss a day of school because of our STEM lessons.
