I teach fourth grade in Maryland within a small, tight-knit community three miles outside of Washington, D.C. My class is a diverse group of children with various learning and physical needs.
We take a hands-on approach to all of the curriculum.
Whether we're getting our hands dirty in science, reading about other cultures, to trying new cuisines, we are engaged in rich discourse. We are a class that uses reasoning, art, and science to understand mathematics and extensive research to discuss current events. As a class, we love to celebrate and share the differences that bring us together and exercise our hopes and dreams for a better future through our writing. Regardless of our background, experience, or perspective, we encourage each other to take risks and to have an open mind. These incredible students strive to reach their highest academic potential, all while becoming more empathetic, reflective, courageous, and collaborative citizens.
My creative students need the right kind of space to thrive in 4th grade! By providing an element of choice, students will have a sense of ownership that will make them more invested in their learning. They can choose to pull up the wobble stool to engage in a group project or make the choice to read on a balance ball. These portable chairs will move around the room, with the students, and can be used throughout the entire day.
There are many benefits of providing a flexible learning environment.
These chairs foster a sense of calmness, focus, productivity, and collaboration! Sensory input is beneficial for children, all while working on core strength as they learn! After a decade of teaching with traditional seats, it is time to create a modern atmosphere that will prepare future students for the dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world.
