Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are learners, readers, writers, explorers, scientists, and mathematicians! They come to school for encouragement, safety, friendship, growth and most importantly - a chance at a future. The potential in these fifth graders is huge!
The majority of my students come from lower income homes and school is the place that they get hot meals, that they get help, someone who believes in them and fun outside of the walls of their home.
Many were affected by Hurricane Harvey and have family member's still working towards a full recovery. This is why it is so important to incorporate fun into their learning and bring them experiences most have never had and may never have. School is always their safe place and somewhere I strive to help them see that their future is so bright!
My Project
The power pens will help students self check needed fluency and problem solving skills. Many of the kiddos get moved from grade to grade without mastering these basic concepts and these pens will help build their confidence. I have one pen now and it not nearly enough for the amount of students that line up to use the cards!
The fraction intervention set is to help me work with small group students to build on this huge 5th grade math skill.
Many students struggle with this concept and this will help me make it hand's on and concrete.
the graphing cards will help us tackle graphs and coordinates to make this concept easier to understand without wasting time creating the framework of a graph. We can analyze vs. focusing on drawing.
Lastly, the caddies will help us to share our limited supplies. As not all students can afford the supplies we use them as table set's and share. Many students came to school after Hurricane Harvey without supplies and so we share ones that the school or I have purchased. This will help us stay organized and keep thing nice for a longer time.
