The students in my class have varying disabilities ranging from Severe Cognitive Impairments to The Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have seven students in my class this year. I teach sixth through eighth grades in a Categorical Classroom. My classroom is one of three special education classes in a regular middle school setting.
My students love technology, just like their peers, they too are very interested in computers, smart boards, phones and iPads.
Many of my students have difficulty with their fine motor skills, so navigating a keyboard or a mouse is challenging for them. Computers with touch screens and iPads are a much more functional tool for them to use in the classroom.
My Project
The iPads and cases I am asking for will be used everyday in my classroom! We work a lot in small groups and if we had three iPads, they would be utilized in a center in each hour of our school day. We could use the iPads to play math games, to learn more about our word of the week and to learn about weather and what to wear for the day. Also to work on our communication skills and to work on our fine motor skills while tracing letters and numbers. My class would utilize iPads for every subject including; social studies, language arts, math, daily living skills, as well as our electives; including music and art too!
