Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school from 62% Free & Reduced Lunch poverty backgrounds where education sometimes takes a back seat to part-time jobs and caring for siblings. Not many of my students have any STEAM career guidance at home and are in awe at the creative thinking and problem-solving we do in class!
My students are engaged and excited about the artistic and interactive STEAM activities we do in my Art and STEAM Programming classes.
From programming, drawing 3D buildings, designing and constructing Recycled Art Sculptures, they are learning life and career skills daily.
Many have no experience at home or in contact with adults in STEAM careers, coming from a rural, low socio-economic community. My class offers a way to gain confidence and find new career paths my students have never dreamed of. Getting hands-on problem-solving experience with design, digital photography, computer science, and coding, my students are falling in love with STEAM careers for their future.
My Project
Using some of the Eight Essential Technologies, my student will use our Innovation Lab to learn about technologies in careers. Many different classes will train their students at home to use the equipment when in school. They will design laser engravings at home and process drone footage of scientific ground research and productions. Students will use the Internet of Things to network the drone for science research and the GoPro Webcam to study their hatching trout from home. Students at home will create Virtual Field Trips to share with their peers with VR Technology. These technologies will launch them into learning at home and at school, whether in-person or quarantined during the Pandemic. Lessons across courses will merge with these new Innovation Lab technologies based on the Eight Essential Technologies today!
