My students need interactive resources to promote innovative thinking. The calendar, alphabet and number resources are multi-purpose and encourage exploration.
Although my students come from many different types of backgrounds, they all have one thing in common: a motivation to learn, despite any obstacles that stand in their way. My group of students with special needs work hard on a daily basis to accomplish and exceed their goals.
My students have a wide variety of abilities, needs, and unique personalities.
They range from EBD (Emotional/Behavioral Disorder), to SDD (Significant Developmental Delay), to CD (cognitive disability). My students require assistance with their academics, behaviors, and social skills; they function from a 2 year old level to 8 years old. Because they have such a wide variety of needs and abilities, I am able to get creative with how I present new ideas and concepts. We are constantly exploring and creating new ways to learn; this ensures that every child is successful in their tasks. Some of my students are working on number and letter identification, while others are strengthening their reading fluency and writing multiple sentences. Even though each child is uniquely different from the next, they all leave school with pride in knowing that they spent the day working hard to meet their full potentials.
My Project
With these new resources in my classroom, I feel that my students will be able to learn new concepts through exploration and creative thinking. For my students who struggle to learn in a large group/general education setting, using these tools to address their unique learning styles in one-on-one interactions will give them the ability to explore the concepts being taught to them as opposed to just listening to new information. Using manipulatives and hands on activities will drastically benefit my students learning and progress. My students who struggle with counting will use manipulatives to visually represent the numbers; students who struggle with the alphabet will use the new activities to explore letter and sound identification and creating new words; my students who are starting to read will use sight word activities to reinforce fluency and comprehension.
As a first year teacher, these items will make an astronomical impact on my collection of resources available for student progress.
My students will have access to new and exciting tools that will not only keep their attention, but also reinforce the concepts they are struggling with. These multilevel resources will address the needs of each students perfectly, and will benefit them greatly.
