I am currently a middle school History teacher in a high needs area. I teach 8th grade to a total of 175 pupils. My students strive to be the best, but lack the resources they need to succeed.
The majority of the students in my school are struggling financially.
Most students qualify for our free or reduced meal program. Due to the budget cuts schools are facing, teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire. As part of the new Common Core Curriculum, students are required to understand the many ideas and concepts from all areas of the world. Currently, there is no way to visualize these details and concepts in the real world. I am in desperate need for Chromebook laptop computers.
My Project
As stated earlier, I am an 8th grade History teacher. I am requesting a class set of Chromebook laptops (and storage cart) in order to focus class time on the interactive-processing part of the learning. By using laptops, students will be able to apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate current History content. In-class computing activities bring other learning opportunities as well: students working under the instructor's guidance; small groups working under controlled conditions; synchronous, whole-class activities (for example, a simulation); active-learning experiences that would be impossible in reality (dangerous or costly); and immediate exchange of and feedback on answers, solutions, and information. Laptops make it easier to collect information and responses from students in a variety of ways.
History can come alive when the resources of the Internet are at their fingertips; students can conduct documentary, experimental, and survey analysis and even do field research using laptops in class.
