Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." –John Dewey. Technology is the window to my students' future. Chromebboks will help open that window.
I teach all subjects in a fourth grade classroom with 33 students.
This is a small TK-6th grade school, with a total of 490 students in attendance. We have a diversity of ethnicities and languages. 27% of our students are learning English as their second language. 62% of our students live at or below the line of poverty. I have a great group of learners! They each come to school each day ready to learn. This is a tight-knit community where students are the second or even third generation to attend our school.
My Project
Our school has an innovation lab that my students get to go to once a week. I don't feel this is enough time for us to be truly innovative in our learning. Our school recently received Chromebooks. Unfortunately, we share this one cart of 33 Chromebooks, with two other classrooms that also have 33 students. This means we only get to use the class set about twice a week. I would like to be able to put technology in my students' hands. I would love to eventually have enough iPads for a small group of students to work with. I would like to give students the capability to read digital books, use apps to create presentations, and have access to digital educational games.
Having an iPad will allow my students to be innovative by using green screen technology to complete presentations.
Placing technology in their hands will help my students become more technology ready for their future. If my students receive this iPad, I can just imagine the smiles you will put on my 4th graders' faces.
