In order to best prepare them to be successful members of society, we need to ensure that they have all the materials needed to reach their full potential.
After Hurricane Harvey, we all needed to assess what was truly important; not only in our lives, but in our education as well. We, as educators, are called to make a difference in the lives of our students, and it is our responsibility to make sure they have the tools and strategies that will enable them to live their best life.
The diversity of my students not only creates a challenge, but it also keeps the classroom environment interesting and full of unique individuals. They share stories and experiences and continue to learn with and from one another. They are truly special individuals, and my goal as an educator is to teach them how to think for themselves, see through the bias, and form their own opinions.
After the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, students essential needs were number one on the list of things we needed to provide. Surviving the emotional and mental toil was tough.
My project will fill in the gaps of needs within the classroom that students need on a daily basis for learning.
I have included flexible seating options to help keep focus in my classroom. I have also included classroom fiction and nonfiction paired reading books for more literacy variety.
I made sure to include earbuds in my project, because we use Chromebooks on a daily basis and they are essential so that my students can listen to the assigned supplemental videos.
Many of my students to not have the resources to travel very far from home, so I have also included maps and pictures of a variety of places so that they can see different areas of the world.
I also made sure to include motivational supplies with hopes to reach more students. Some of them need a little "push", and with your help, I feel like we can make this happen!
