I need financial assistance for a 200-hour yoga, wellness and social-emotional learning training that is designed specifically for educators to help students self-regulate their emotions and be successful learners.
I am a teacher in an urban school-district. According to state data, 77.4% of students at my school are economically disadvantaged and 82.9% of students are considered to have high needs. Our school's population is large, as we currently serve 739 students. Our population of students is varied academically, with 15.6% of students having disabilities, 20.6% being English learners and 25.8% of students whose first language is not English.
Our school is home to 13 regular education classrooms, 6 inclusion classrooms, 4 emotional disturbance behavioral disorder classrooms, and 3 English-language newcomer classrooms.
Many of the students I work with face adversity at such a young age and in turn, fight daily challenges. The students at my school are incredibly bright and hard working. They have grit and have shown tremendous progress when their needs are being met. I know that they will continue to make growth this year, despite the challenges they face.
My Project
I hope to participate in a 16-day training that is specifically designed to support educators in transforming themselves, their relationships, and their communities. In the training, we will study powerful mind-body wellness practices like yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork - and learn self-care, social-emotional learning, and community building strategies that positively impact our lives, classrooms and schools.
Graduates will be certified as a B4C Wellness Champion, which qualifies you to facilitate wellness and social-emotional learning in your school community.
My plan is to embed strategies from the training into daily routines at my school. Not only do I plan to support students directly, but also teachers so that they can continue to support their students. Graduates will also be certified as 200-hour yoga teachers and eligible to register as a RYT-200 (Registered Yoga Teacher - 200 hour) through Yoga Alliance.
