Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our ICT class includes a diverse group of children, including general education students and those with disabilities such as ADD/ADHD, autism, speech impairments, non-compliant behavior, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, and physical challenges. While some of them are performing close to grade level, the majority of them are extremely low, performing on a kindergarten/first/second-grade level. This is evident during core academic subjects when the students have difficulty remaining focused and attentive. It is also noticeable when it comes to their basic hygiene knowledge.
My Project
Ink is a basic supply needed in our classroom! Our school does not provide ink, paper, or printers, therefore, my co-teacher and I have to purchase these items on our own. However, it is a top priority supply for us and each month, we have to purchase more ink.
My co-teacher and I need black and colored ink to create work that is challenging and accessible for our third grade students.
Since most of our students are performing below grade level, the curriculum that we intend to use does not match their needs and abilities and as a result, we need to create differentiated work for them throughout all of the subjects. In addition, we use the ink to create individual charts that students can use on their own and gain independence.
