Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Inquisitive minds, warm hearts, helpful hands, and sponges for brains. These are just some of the ways you could describe the students that walk through our classroom doors each day.
Our students, with limited English skills, live in a high-poverty, big-city community where the goal is to help them blossom into productive learners and speakers.
Their willingness to work hard and achieve is evident in all that they do. They may come from homes where paying the rent and buying food is the priority. Therefore, it is so important for us to support them in as many ways as we can to give them every chance to succeed.
My Project
My students need a toner cartridge to be able to use our printer. How will they print their research on their biographies of John James Audubon? How will they print their science projects on the environment? Because of the economic circumstances of our families, the class computers and iPads are the only technology some students encounter.
The students are constantly using the class computers for everything from math to reading to writing to social studies.
It is a joy for them. Yet I worry the joy will be diminished when our printer runs out of toner and the school has no replacements. Giving us a replacement toner cartridge will allow them to really utilize the computers and iPads to the fullest extent possible.
