Help me give my students a staple gun and ink for a colorful classroom. We love to do projects that are very colorful and visually stimulating. We print out TONS of pictures for activity schedules, photos for communication, and weekly schedules for parents.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the ten colors of the Autism rainbow, each their own hue of personality. Some of them are nonverbal and are working on using sign language to communicate their wants and needs. The students come from different backgrounds and have different strengths, but they all are bright, energetic, and curious. Even on the challenging days, my students bring joy to me and my staff with their loving, youthful, and independent spirits.
My students are dynamic and sensitive.
Giving these students sensory input is essential to their classroom experience. My staff and I use sensory integration items to help the students be calm, focused, and comfortable so they can be ready to learn. We utilize therapeutic brushes, weighted blankets and vests, wiggle cushions, and sensory toys to aid students. It is wonderful to see a student smile and relax when they receive the special sensory attention they need.
My intention is to build an enriched environment to give my students a variety of play and sensory experiences. DonorsChoose can help with that!
My Project
We use TONS of ink in our classroom because most of our children use some sort of visual/photo icon exchange to communicate and to transition from one activity to the next. Having ink available to us is crucial to our room because we are constantly making new photo icons for things like snacks, new games and new books. Every time we get a new book or game we make a photo icon of it, so that the children that do not talk are able to pick the books/games that they want by selecting the correct photo icon.
Photo icon communication is very important for our children because it allows them to use multiple senses at once to process information (they see the photo, hear us say the word and are able to give or touch icon to communicate with us).
Our children learn in a variety of ways, so the more senses they use to process information they better chance they have to understand and communicate functionally.
