Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students use hands-on activities and manipulatives as much as possible, but pencil and paper exercises are needed for certain lessons. For this reason, ink for the copy machine is necessary. We need ink to make copies of classwork, homework, and parent notifications.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles, and other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager, and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantaged, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper. Thus, ink for copy machines or printers has been deemed as "non-essential".
My Project
Having ink for the copy machine means that I will be able to continue to make copies so that my kinder students will be able to develop several skills using paper and a pencil exercises. They will be able to trace letters and numbers. They will be able to develop their fine motor skills by completing cutting and paste worksheets. They will also be able to take homework and parent notifications home. Having ink in our copy machine will also help my students share their writing work as we create classroom books for our library. We will be making copies of my students' writing to make these books. Having these books in our classroom library will help my students become better readers and view themselves as authors.
There are many times during the school day when paper and pencil exercises are necessary and thus copies need to be made.
We need ink to be able to make these copies. Please help us continue to learn by making sure that there is ink in our copy machine.
