Ink for Communication

Help me give my students ink for communication. Children with autism are visual learners. They see the world in pictures and require a lot of visual support in the classroom in order to develop and improve different skills.

My Students

My classroom is made up of eight students with Autism who are faced with significant communication and behavioral challenges, and function at various intellectual levels. Their ages range from 5 to 8 years old. Most of the students require specialized attention and intensive support as they have individualized curriculum. All students require curriculum to be adapted and differentiated, which is why I am seeking to have a classroom printer. It is very challenging to modify and differentiate my lessons in order to reach all learners when there is no working printer. It is necessary to have a classroom printer to ensure all my lessons will meet every learner.

My Project

In my classroom I use a lot of Mayer-Johnson Symbols for communication boards, classroom and individual schedules, lessons, and transitions. Communication boards are also used during our community trips (to the zoo, diner, library, Barnes & Nobles, supermarkets, etc). In order to create all these communication boards, schedules and symbols, we need to print them. Unfortunately, we ran out of toner very fast.

Your donation to this project will make such a difference in meeting all of our student's need and classroom needs.

More importantly, the ability to print communication boards gives our students the opportunity to communicate. It is important for our student's to have a voice in order to express their wants and needs. In addition to this, it is really imperative that our students socialize with their families, teachers and peers! Please donate to our project "Ink for Communication!"
