I teach in a public school on The Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Our student body is considered a "High Poverty" school due to the fact that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school consists of military children as well as children in low income families.
Due to the nature of some military families and the fact that many parents are deployed throughout the year, many children are usually left with one parent at home for extended periods of times.
Also, the financial situations of many families having both parents working many hours result in several students' families strained for not only money, but time. This affects the students academically. My student's parents sacrifice so much for their children and for our country. I feel like it is my duty to serve them to the best of my ability...especially as a first year teacher, with 31 students, I give them my all everyday, because I know their families can sometimes be away, giving their all, for our country .
My Project
In my classroom, we were blessed enough to have received a 3D printer which was donated through DonorsChoose.org last year.
After printing many cool things in our classroom (such as a pan-pipe flute to use to demonstrate how frequency of wave lengths can affect the sound's pitch), we are running low on the 3D printing filament.
The plastic filament is the "ink" used in the printer to make objects in the third dimension. These new resources will be used to print objects and previous tools used to measure weather. This will help students not only understand how Earth's atmosphere works, but it will also help us futher understand our planet and solar system.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Saab and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
