Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students need access to technology and information. I teach chemistry to 11th grade students at a small pilot school in California. The students are mostly low-performing and often do not own computers or technology at home.
The 2 classroom desktop computers in my classroom are in constant use throughout the day because my students need access to technology and information. Since they lack this resource at home, many of them rely on the school to access the computer and Internet. Students often use the computers in my room to research for class projects and to type up assignments.
At the school I work at, we strive to prepare our students for college and post-high school careers by having high expectations on the quality of their work. For example, some teachers require that certain assignments be typed or that the students prepare a Powerpoint presentation. Since we understand that many of our students do not own computers at home, we allow students to work on their projects in our classrooms, where each class is equipped with 2 desktop computers. In my room, students are on the 2 computers non-stop before and after school and during any breaks in the day.
The resources that I need are ink cartridges for the HP printer that is connected to the 2 computers. Students print out their assignments and information they obtain from the Internet that they often use for projects using the printer. The current ink cartridge is low on ink, and the school does not have the immediate funds to purchase more ink. This resource is vital if students are expected to achieve high academic expectations from their teachers in rigorous courses.
Your donation will make it possible for my students to have access to information that will help them achieve academic success and be successful applicants for college.
