This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young adults ages 18-26 with severe special needs. They enjoy learning and meeting new people. They also love to communication but because of their limited speech it is difficult to understand them. They depend on assistive technology to communicate. These assistive technology equipment can be pricey and parents and care givers cannot afford to purchase because of limited funds to care for items outside of their basic needs. Our school is in the urban area and students are below the national poverty level, 96% receive some source of state assistance.
My Project
The Chromebooks will allow my students who have limited verbal language to receive personalized instruction to increase verbal communication skills in and outside of the classroom.
Because my students have severe cognitive impairments they required extended instruction and help in all areas of daily living.
Having assistive technology is necessary to assist them in reaching thier maxium potential to the best of their abilities.
Receiving the Chromebook is just what my students need because they will be able to interact with the interactive smart book from their desks allowing them to have personalized access to the functional reading curriculum and help them to meet their individual education plan goals.
