Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is student-centered and highly creative. On a typical day, you might find us participating in collaborative learning where we are often sharing talents the students had no idea they had! Singing, dancing, and art integrated lessons are the norm here!
In our low-income community, it is much easier to turn on the TV and zone out than to find a creative outlet.
Things such as cameras are luxuries. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many are recipients of free and reduced meals. As a new teacher, I have begged and borrowed to fill my classroom with anything I can use to spark excitement and imagination. It is my goal to provide imaginative avenues with which my students can explore the wonders of their world, from the safety of our classroom.
My Project
Our students are our future. Technology is our future. How can our students use technology for social good?
I will learn how to inspire my students to combine their love of technology with the ability to create change in their communities.
What a great discovery that would be!
Imagine the ways in which they could change their own lives, and the lives of others, by solving problems in their communities. Perhaps they could design a device that could make it easier to put on socks? Maybe they could design something to make it easier for older people to make it all the way across the street in one light! Who knows what their unique perspectives could identify as needs in their community!?
