My Students

The students in my social studies classes are inquisitive, energetic, and creative 6th graders. They are excited to be in their first real middle school social studies class to learn about the world around them. My students are fresh out of elementary school and ready to be a part of this great world.

Incorporating current events into my class gives my students the opportunity to voice their opinions as a global citizens and to begin tackling some of the difficult issues facing their world.

As a teacher I find it imperative to challenge my students to grow their civic minded responsibility with an understanding of the great importance that individual's can have on their world.

My Project

By supporting this project, you will be helping to pay for a subscription to the Junior Scholastic magazine. This is a fantastic way to bring current events into the classroom with eye opening articles that are written for kids that offer multiple perspectives on the issues facing our world. The pictures and graphs in each issue continually spark great interest and discussion. Their is always an opinion section for students to read which helps them to see both sides and to form their own opinions as well. One of my favorite parts of the subscription is the wonderful online materials that accompany the articles.
