My Students
The 15 scholars who make up my dynamic 4th grade classroom are constantly seeking knowledge even against all odds. They don’t quite when the work gets tough, instead they use their problem solving skills to reach their goal. This couldn’t be more true than when they are working with unknown words and vocabulary during ELA instruction. My scholars are word warriors and love using dictionaries to look up the unknown words they come across when reading. As mathematicians they love sharing/learning strategies from one another.
My Project
My scholars have limited access to informational texts as my school doesn’t use textbooks. I am only able to make copies in black and white and have to pull material from several different resources in order for my instruction to be coherent. I know my scholars will love the bright images, engaging stories, and build background knowledge they lack. Scholars will have the opportunity to take the magazine home to read for extra fluency practice that may don’t get because they lack access to books. The dictionaries will allow all student the opportunity to practice looking up unknown words to build their vocabularies.
