I am third year teacher. I teach at a low-income, high poverty school district. My students arrive with very few supplies. They face many challenges to their learning each day. Regardless, they are very creative and love to learn.
My students are incredibly enthusiastic learners, always excited to use new materials I bring to the classroom.
As a teacher in a low-income district, I am struggling to find and afford materials for my students.
My students appreciate when I bring in something new for them to use. Their eyes light up and excited questions are asked when I sort through new supplies or bring out new materials.
My Project
My students need new informational texts in our classroom library. The collection of books I selected are by award winning author and illustrator of children's books Gail Gibbons. She illustrates these books so beautifully that even my lower readers are able to learn information from the pictures.
Informational texts written and illustrated by Gail Gibbons provide my students opportunities to grow their science and social studies knowledge.
The illustrations are detailed with labels and my students enjoy exploring all the pages in detail. We would like to use these with our nonfiction reading and writing units. Gail Gibbons is a great mentor author for my students to follow.
