My students need resources to support a Project Based Learning Project focused on animals. These books will help develop their understanding of the variety of adaptations, habitats, ecosystems, social behaviors, and life cycle of animals.
Our school is quite diverse in social economic status, cultures, and language proficiencies. My students walk into our classroom motivated, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them each day. No matter the content area, my students demonstrate abilities at a variety of paces and levels. In order to help accommodate their individual needs, I want to offer a spectrum of resources they can refer to. These resources will not only strengthen their understanding of the content, but will also build their prior knowledge, language acquisition, and vocabulary.
My Project
My students are excited to explore the world of literature, to learn, and to expand their capacity for critical thinking. They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds.
One of our Project Based Learning Units is focusing on the adaptations, habitats, ecosystems, social behaviors, and life cycle of wildlife.
We also focus on how the environment and wildlife work together in order to survive and thrive.
Our library is a great source of learning within our classroom. The students utilize the library often for a variety of reasons and I want to continue to provide resources for them to refer to when researching their topic. Having a wide spectrum of books on specific animals will allow them to not just learn more about that species, but also to be able to compare and contrast the animals' characteristics, needs, and adaptations. When working in small groups, it is ideal to have enough for every child to read. This allows them to have re-read it at their pace and understanding. This also helps them familiarize them with different types of texts and how to locate specific information that is needed.
