My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

Our school is nestled in the heart of western Maine, which was once surrounded by bustling mills.

Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

We absolutely love the books and resources that we currently have access to from Pioneer Valley Books. Having read thousands of guided reading texts with students, I can attest to the quality and value in these books. Pioneer Valley Books truly bring the world into the classroom and allow students to make meaningful connections to the text as well as learn about concepts, individuals, and animals that they may otherwise not be aware of.

Non-fiction texts often carry a higher reading level than their fiction counterparts due to the vocabulary, concepts, and prior knowledge required for understanding that make them feel 'out of reach' to students, but I find Pioneer Valley Books to the the exception to the rule!

I have seen the growth within my classroom from the limited access we have available to a sampling of these texts, and I truly believe they will make a positive impact on my students reading progress. These books will help open the eyes of my students to an entire world of learning with non-fiction titles!

These leveled sets will be used during guided reading, independent reading, and strategy groups to help students progress through their reading levels. With the multiple copies requested, students will have the opportunity to partner read and work in small groups to delve further into conversation surrounding the many topics. The range of topics will ensure that all students are able to find a book in the classroom that is a 'just right' read for them, as well as a topic that is of interest and that will challenge them to push even further into their reading progress. The Pioneer Valley Books Discover Our World Complete Set will be used daily, throughout the entire school year, for many years to come!
