Over the last year, I have spent working as a Spanish teacher with mainly 7th grade students. Our students are inquisitive learners with little access to books. We currently don't have a functioning library but as of next year, I will be starting as our first Media Center Specialist. As we will be in candidacy for IB, I want to start the school year with a library full of books to open our students' eyes and minds to reading. Not to mention that I want to have a reading area where the kids can settle down to read and enjoy.
Many of our students don't have access to books at home and currently not in school either.
We are applying for Title 1 funding and that still won't cover everything we need. Although our school is a K-8 I will mostly be working with the 6-8th graders. Our school library will be an essential resource for our students. Our students get excited about books and will be even more excited when they know that they have the possibility of checking our books that they're interested in and can read for both pleasure and their English and Spanish classes
My Project
These materials for our library already have a place to go! Our school just needs some help filling all the shelves and space in our media center. Our need for books and materials to fill our library is great and the list of informational materials that I have requested is just a start. I want our scholars to come into the library excited to learn something new. I want our scholars to have a place to go to do some research and to know how to use the materials provided for them.
These materials will help our school in the best of ways.
As of next year, we will be in IB candidacy and we need to have a resourceful media center and this project can help!
