My Students
LES is a Title 1 school that serves approximately 730 students. About 75% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. My class consists of 20 eager students from different backgrounds and varying abilities. About 50% of my students are reading below grade level. Many of them come to school with many outside challenges. Despite this, they work extremely hard and are determined to be the best they can be. Everyday, my students come in our classroom READY and EAGER to LEARN.
My Project
My students love to read! Currently, about 50% of them are reading below grade level. Recent assessments show that my students need more work with Nonfiction texts. My classroom library has many Fiction books, but only a few Nonfiction books that my students find interesting. This project will give my students the opportunity to choose from many high-interest books to read. I developed the list of books based on their interests and reading abilities. These books will help ignite an excitement for reading Nonfiction that will help improve skills for approaching a variety of texts. This project will help keep reading alive and productive in my classroom!
