Infinity and Beyond! Google Chromebooks Take Students Places
My students need two Chromebooks to keep up with the rigorous demands of the Common Core Standards. This will benefit project-based learning as well as motivate students.
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world." David Warlick
My students are fourth graders.
The school is fairly new, however the enrollment has exploded in the past two years which has minimized the availability of resources such as laptops and computers. Recently, eight portable classrooms were added and our capacity is well over 1,000 students. My kiddos have background in technology and are highly motivated by it. I believe with additionally tablets in the classroom, they can soar to greater heights.
My Project
There are numerous ways students will utilize the Chromebooks in the classroom. While the teacher works with small groups on intervention, other students can use the tablets for research, projects or enrichment activities. Activities can be done individually or cooperatively. Unlike ipads, Chromebooks have a port for a flash drive which allows students to save research or projects which supports time management as well. Having the tablets in the classroom will allow students to practice technology skills which is critical to their future. They can create book reports and model their understanding of literature with slide shows and movie trailers. Additionally, there are a number of programs for students to practice skills in all subject areas which fosters integrated and differentiated learning.
The donation of Chromebooks will enhance the classroom in many ways including time management.
Any time not wasted such as, traveling to a computer lab, is time gained in learning. Struggling students can utilize the device with intervention programs. Additionally, the future is technology, so it is vital for student's success to have these tools at their fingertips.
