This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every day my scholars try their best to be patient while I manage the hundreds of papers I need to create and distribute that will differentiate their learning. We have tried many unsuccessful attempts to manage the papers, but it just becomes too much!
My 5th graders come from the poorest area.
Inside of my classroom we have 10 scholars who all need legal individual instruction, with 24 students who all deserve individualized instruction. They face many challenges as they make their way to school and often can not afford modern technology like iPads. When they come to our school we try every day to not only excite their learning, but to tailor their learning so that they are all getting a unique experience. However with the lack of technology that can truly differentiate their learning, our students are often learning through paper work and computer programs that our district has purchased that isn't too exciting. My students love when we find new and exciting programs that they can use to enhance their learning.
My Project
We are requesting 7 iPads so that we can create a rotating center where students can go onto programs and apps that are unique for their learning. There are some amazing free sites like frontrow.com and iBooks where students can not only learn what they actually need help with, but can read and listen to books that they could not normally read because of their low reading levels. The iPads even offer free tools like speech to text and reading their text if they would like it to, which would greatly benefit the students who have special needs inside of our room.
My hope is that my students will be able to finally get technology they deserve and will most importantly learn on their level.
They will be able to work on what they need and will not feel like they are being called out for their struggles. With these iPads we will be able to finally put our students on the same playing field as all students in the USA.
