Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At my school, "Every Student Counts, and Every Moment Matters!"

My students come to school each and every day ready to take on the world and to learn, challenging themselves to be better than they were the day before.

We set academic goals in each content area and aim not only to achieve, but to surpass these goals. This is not always easy in a lower income neighborhood where the stress of the outside world can permeate into the classroom environment, where 100% of students receive free lunch and where Title I resources are cut due to dwindling budgets, but poverty is not an obstacle that my students let get in their way.

As future innovators, creators, engineers and artists, my students aim for the highest standards of achievement! Their motivation, focus and drive is awe-inspiring.

My Project

"Life as a teacher begins the day you realize that you are always a learner." As a teacher, I am always learning and always experimenting with new techniques and strategies to give my students the best education available.

In this modern age, children's brains are being rewired to adapt to the digital age; what worked for me when I was a child no longer works for them.

This generation is learning from digital textbooks, videos, and websites. As a teacher, I need to join them. I need this technology in order to grow as an educator and gain the 21st-century technology skills for myself that my students demonstrate on a daily basis. Using the iPad and iPencil will allow me to become more competent as a 21st-century teacher. I will be able to branch out into learning coding and I will be able to explore different apps and their benefits for my students. These apps are programs that are used in "flipping the classroom"- a movement designed to allow students to learn at home and practice their learning in school. Using the iPad and pencil, I also will be able to create videos of myself teaching a particular skill which I can review and analyze to help me become a better teacher. The iPencil is needed because it allows for instant annotations. With the iPad, I can also learn to code. This is a new skill that is up and coming in the education world. However, I do not have the devices needed to learn to code. This iPad and iPencil will allow me to learn. Finally, once the iPad is received, I will be participating in a PD on using airstream in the classroom. This is a program that integrates the iPad and iPencil with the interactive whiteboard.
