My Students
My students are amazing! I teach at an inner-city Title I school where 97.8% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. In my third grade classroom, five languages are spoken. My fourteen students are so excited to share cultures, customs, and beliefs with each other. My job is to do everything I can to give these students a safe and engaging classroom in which to thrive.
Our school has partnered with a community revitalization project to improve the neighborhood our students are growing up in.
With this partnership, we have been able to revamp our school and give students most of the resources they need. Our school's math and literacy lab provides amazing Tier 3 intervention. Our STEAM lab is engaging and innovative. This is my first year at our school, and I am still gaining the resources I need to make my classroom secure and engaging as well.
My Project
In Nebraska, the weather is unpredictable. I would love the opportunity to give my students access to recess tools that will engage them while entertaining them. Students specifically need a LEGO Brick Box and Doublesix Dominoes to explore their STEM interests.
Indoor recess activities foster team building, empathy, and social skills.
Students will learn to interact with each other in situations where they will need to take turns, collaborate, and problem solve. Social skills are taught through the curriculum and morning meetings, but students need unstructured play to authentically apply these skills. Through partner games such as Uno and Connect 4, students will have the opportunity to practice and enforce these skills.
