The students that I have the privilege to teach are amazing! They are thinkers, creators, innovators, and problem solvers. These students are tomorrow's leaders, and it is critical that they are given experiences and are exposed to new technologies, so that they can practice their STEM skills.
They are curious and are always eager to learn and try new things.
Students come from very diverse backgrounds, but all have hearts of gold. Our school is rural with moderate to high poverty. The concept of family and working together are big themes in my classroom. Students are constantly put in situations that require getting along with and working together to solve problems.
My Project
We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and are able to spend many of our days outside in the fresh air. My students love to be outside playing games with their classmates and friends. However, we live on an active volcano. Although we are a distance away from the actual lava, we are still feeling the effects of poor air quality (elevated traces of SO2 particles in the air).
On days full of vog and high levels of SO2 present ("red days"), students are forced to stay indoors.
On these days, I want to ensure that my students are still able to socialize with their friends and enjoy their "free time." I also want to maximize their learning opportunities and continue to teach social skills, taking turns, following directions, and problem solving. By having a selection of board games and logic puzzles, my students can stay safe indoors and still get to enjoy their recess time.
