Help me give my students indoor soccer balls!
My students need more indoor soccer balls to practice their foot dribbling skills in pairs and individually during the winter in the gym for indoor soccer.
We have a respectful and motivated student population; however, most come from a low socioeconomic background and have little to no access to recreation facilities or centers due to cost and location. Most do not have the money to join team sports or to pay for the school sports after school. Most of our students do not have access to healthy food as convince stores at gas stations are their only option for snacks in their communities. We do not have a major grocery store. Most students are latch key kids with both parents working. Most of our students population lives a sedentary lifestyle due to these factors.
My Project
We are setting our sights on improving positive behavior from our adolescent students in our physical education program at our school. In order to create an impactful program and class hour that motivates students, we are in need of more equipment for certain units. For example indoor soccer! With class sizes of up to 37 middle school students, it is hard to create a lesson plan where our kids can practice individually. The national standards for soccer include learning objectives and goals of -the student passes and receives with feet in combination with locomotor patterns of running, change of direction, and speed. The student can foot- dribble with control, changing speed and direction in small sided play (indoor). Right now it is hard to complete these goals as we have one indoor soccer ball for a class which results in many times the student only gets the ball a couple times a game or even class hour. When students can practice individually we see an increase in engagement. I have requested 15 indoor soccer balls in order to facilitate drills and skill test with students so they can master the skill of foot dribbling with control in small sided play.
