Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from all over New Jersey. Around eighty-five percent of our students are African-American, and the remainder are Hispanic and Caucasian. All of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I teach students who are currently in the seventh grade but are reading at a third-grade level.
They love to learn but hate to read. They are often frustrated at our lack of available resources such as books, laptops, projectors, and sometimes even supplies! Please help me ensure that every child in my classroom receives the best materials to achieve optimal learning. Thank you!
My Project
Many of our students struggle with reading and comprehension. These struggles are for many different reasons, but the two main reasons I feel through my experience are lack of exposure to literature at a young age and language difficulties. The school we are placed at is in a lower income area that attracts many English language learners and their families. Even though the majority of our families do not speak English fluently, they are trying to learn. These iPads will be used in many different capacities but mostly for small group and individual instruction. These iPads will be set up to work on the students' instructional levels. Thank you for your support. These iPads and protective cases will allow many of our students learn at their own pace and really gain an understanding of the English language. During our language classes, we will focus on learning their new language at their own pace.
