My Students

I am a Special Education teacher at a middle school in rural East Tennessee. Most of my students are considered to be economically disadvantaged and view school as their safe space. Many count on school daily for the simple fact that they know they will receive two hot meals. With that being said also comes the learning obstacles and dealing with ADD/ADHD, and anxiety.

I would love to grow my classroom technology so that several students have access to tablets that can be individualized to their needs in literacy and numeracy.

I also want to foster their love for reading.

My Project

My students are in middle school with special needs. Their ability levels range from Kindergarten to fourth grade. With these deficits come large challenges.

Having additional tablets will allow me to provide centers that are technology based.

This will allow my students to work at their own individual levels. Depending on the lesson that day it might be necessary that some students take a tablet home in order to continue working on that day's skill to gain proficiency. Many of my students are lacking in basic skills such as knowing and spelling sight words. Others are lacking in basic math skills such as addition and subtraction. These tablets will allow them access to apps and programs to help gain these necessary skills.
