My students need a variety of seating and desk options to suit their individual needs. The Gaiam Balance Ball chairs will help some of my more "active" learners get their energy out while focusing on work.
I am a learning support teacher at a public elementary school. The students in my room have learning and emotional disabilities. I also have students with Autism in my classes. I would like to be able to offer them a variety of flexible seating options to suit their individual preferences. Very few of them can sit for an entire class in a stiff chair. By having choices of seating options or standing desks to work at, the length of their work time and involvement in class can be strengthened.
My Project
Our classroom budgets have been cut from previous years, which has left little room for some of the extras. It's these extras though that can make the difference for some students. The students in my classroom would greatly benefit from flexible seating options so they can have an outlet to get their energy out while they work. The kick bands for the chairs are a great example of this. The Gaiam balance balls for seating would also aid the students who need to move during instruction times. This way their movements are not completely distracting to the other students working in the room.
My students need seating that is as individual as they are.
Their academic needs and goals cannot be accomplished if they are distracted or uncomfortable while learning and working. I recently found a few of my students are working better while standing. Unfortunately, traditional tables and desks do not comfortably accommodate this. The standing desk on my wishlist would help them tremendously.
