This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third grade in a Title I elementary school where 100% receive free or reduced lunch. We have a diverse student population that is somewhat transient due to the socioeconomic status of many of the families and because we are near a military installation.
We are also a Leader in Me school where the students learn and practice the seven habits of effective people and learn to apply those to their own lives.
Being part of a Leader in Me school, the students learn to take responsibility for their actions and their learning. They not only learn to set goals, but they also develop plans and strategies for reaching their goals. They know they are in control of their success.
My Project
These materials will make a difference because students will have individual resources to supplement and enhance what we already do in the classroom. The students will especially benefit from the Maps of Today magazines to help with their social studies. The benefit of having these individual resources is that students cantake them home, practice with them, and share them with their families.
These resources were chosen because they will help target specific needs of my students.
There is a larger emphasis in social studies than in previous years, and the other resource is to help them build their language which will help with reading and vocabulary.
