Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite all the adversity they face, my students are always motivated and ready to learn. Unfortunately, my students are growing up in a neighborhood where there is very little inspiration. In hopes of my students not falling into the negativity they are surrounded by, I do my best to maintain a welcoming, safe, and inspiring classroom environment.
Since we have limited resources offered in our school, it is difficult to keep lessons engaging for them.
The majority of my students are English Learners. Although they have not fully mastered the English language, time and time again, my students work hard to excel academically. Therefore, they deserve to have the resources needed to attain a higher level education.
My Project
Individual dry-erase lapboards and markers will be used to help my students develop and practice their writing and math skills. Since the very beginning, my students practice all types of lines that later develop into letters and numbers. On one side of the lapboards, my students will be able to practice writing using the top lines, bottom lines, and broken lines to perfect their uppercase and lowercase letters. On the blank side of the lapboards, my students will practice writing numbers, number sentences, and they can also show their thinking during math.
Individual dry-erase lapboards and markers will not only aide my students as they practice their writing and math skills, but they will also allow me to assess their learning immediately.
For instance, if I give my students a problem to work on, and I tell all of them to show me their answers on their whiteboards, I'd be able to know whether or not I need to review the lesson. I will also know what students need more time reviewing skills and who does not.
