Help me give my students an acrylic tabletop splash guard and individual book bags to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our classroom. Since students are unable to share due to the pandemic, these will allow students to keep their favorite books close.
My students are from the smallest city in Rhode Island, the smallest state. Yet our city is the most populated and a city where most live at the poverty level and all receive free lunch. The majority of my students are also English Language Learners who come from other countries. Central Falls has the highest COVID rate in Rhode Island.
My students come to school each day eager to learn and try their best despite some of their challenges.
All students get some kind of service: OT, APE, SPL, or PT. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating, sensory breaks, movement breaks, and other learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met.
Some of our learning centers require the use of a computer, and my students have difficultly with manipulating a mouse. Some of my students are still learning their letters, numbers, colors, and shapes, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds, blending sounds and learning new words. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn with a mix of interests, abilities, and goals.
My Project
These individual bags will allow my students to keep their favorite reading books close and limit multiple student contact and social distancing. Due to the pandemic, sharing books will not be allowed when we get back to in-person school.
Having individual books bags for each student to allow easy and readily access to their favorite books will provide a small sense of normalcy when returning to school while still encouraging the love of reading.
The acrylic table top partition/splash guard is needed for 1:1 reading instruction to protect students and teachers during conferencing.
