Independent Work Will Challenge and Change My Communication
Help me give my students support materials including voice output buttons, tally counting clickers, and challenging activities to promote independence and learning!
My students are ages 3-11 who have disabilities including developmental delays, autism, and speech-language disorders. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist so each student I work with has difficulty in the area of communication. In addition to communication needs, many struggle with sensory deficits secondary to autism, visual impairments, etc.
Due to the significant delays many of my students have, they are at a high risk of not meeting developmental and academic targets needed for school success.
My students require repetition and varied presentations in order to master new skills within a small group presentation then the generalization of these skills to the school-wide environment.
My job is to help each of my students develop the foundational skills needed to develop articulation and language skills needed to access their community, classroom, and education.
My Project
Each of my school-age students has a Speech-Language disorder that impacts their ability to speak clearly or speak at all. It is important to facilitate ways for my students to help practice and generalize communication across school, home, and community settings. I am asking for a variety of voice output devices, independent practice tools (tally counters), etc to provide options for self and/or peer practice of communication skills. Additionally, the visual stimulation of the sensory tubes and challenging riddles will assist in maintaining attention and engagement.
This project will allow me to create engaging and challenging activities for my students with Speech-Language Impairments to develop problem-solving skills, hold each other accountable for responses, and give responses in a varied method (voice output vs verbal, if necessary).
I will create opportunities for challenging/problem solving/inferencing activities for my students, opportunities for peer accountability (with tally counters, supervised...of course!), and alternative response methods.
