Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The nine students in our class are nine of the most genuine and loving people you will ever meet.
My students are part of a Functional Life Skills classroom in a Title I school. All of my students have been diagnosed with a variety of cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Also, many come from low socioeconomic communities like their school classmates. Despite the odds stacked against them, my students are stronger than I ever was at their age. They will continue to work hard to learn to the skills they need to become productive citizens of our community.
My Project
Many of my students cannot speak and/or write to demonstrate their understanding of new materials they are learning.
My students are yearning to show they understand of new materials and skills.
By created individualized and differentiated work tasks, my students are able to show their understanding while gaining independence by completing the activities independently.
The activities are printed on card stock and laminated with Velcro pieces to have matching answers . Activities include Mathematics, English language arts, life skills, science, social studies, behavior expectations and other items related to their individualized educational plan.
By allowing students to show their work without assistance, students are not only showing their level of understanding but gaining the skill to work independently.
