Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. The school is 100% free breakfast and lunch and most students receive food for the weekends. Most of the students in my classroom also do not bring any school supplies because they are not able to afford to purchase them. All my students work extremely hard to learn and and continue their education.

My Project

This year we are focusing on thirty minutes daily of independent reading. My classroom library has some books, but with students taking books home and keeping them, it is rapidly getting depleted. I am happy that my books are finding a new home but my selection is rapidly decreasing.

Giving low income students the opportunity to have interesting and exciting books to read will give them a chance to see the world without actually traveling!

Jennifer Serravallo Go-To Books - Grade 3 books will allow my students the chance to continue to read and travel the world through their mind.
