My Students

What makes my students special is their ability to come to school every day and face the day. The students in my class all have very specific needs, and face challenges on a day-to-day basis, and work to overcome them in order to learn. My classroom has eleven students who have varying exceptionalities (VE) in grades 3-6. Some have autism, and some have intellectual disabilities. It is a struggle and a challenge for each and every one of them to overcome daily to go through our core subjects of math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.

I want my students' to be able to become independent learners.

Because my students have such very specific needs, they need digital resources in order for them to fully be able to access the curriculum and convey their feelings and stories to others.

Even though my students may not be able to express themselves verbally, they are so incredibly creative and always teach me something new every day.

My Project

By having these read along books with CDs for my nonverbal students, they will be able to follow along in books and help them decode unfamiliar words without a 1 on 1 in the classroom setting.

Creating independence in a special needs classroom is crucial.

My students need to have the opportunity to do things by themselves in order to help foster different skills. My students would love to have a listening center so that they can enjoy books at their leisure and will not require having an adult read to them at all times. By having this listening center for 4, we will be able to have more than one student enjoy reading independently.
