Independent Me at Three!

Help me give my students backpack cubbies that they can access independently and indoor stepping stones to give them them the sensory input of climbing to help them self regulate throughout the day.

My Project

My students are 3-5 years old and all have some sort of speech and/or developmental delay. Our goal is to prepare them for prek or kindergarten by providing early intervention in the areas of social, emotional and speech. While we do teach a small amount of academics, our main focus is on communication, self advocacy and independence. \

To help my students become more independent, I would love to have space for their backpack and supplies that they can access on their own.

Right now, their backpacks are kept in a closet that is meant for older students and adults. This makes it very hard for them to open and even reach the hooks. If my students could independently access their cubbies their self confidence would increase and our mornings could start smoother.

Many of my students also have significant sensory needs. Several of them need the sensation of climbing to help regulate their minds and bodies. There is not currently a safe place for them to get this sensation in the classroom. The Alphabet Stepping Stones would be a great way for my students to safely get the sensory input they so desperately need to be successful in the classroom.
