Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 11-14 year old students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our middle school's Functional Living Skills self contained classroom. My students focus their time in school on preparing for life after high school. That looks different for every student. I work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are. While working on functional living skills, we also work on function academic skills, social skills, communication, and self care. My goal is for my students to be as independent as possible after high school.
My Project
My students are very visual and kinesthetic learners. They like to move around and are active when learning new concepts. I want to give them the opportunity to use the materials requested as a stepping stone to become independent. This will in turn help them also to become confident. The students in my class are bright, full of life, and curious children. Every day they come in with a smile on their face, ready to learn. They work hard everyday to learn as much as they can. With consistency and hard work, I know they will use these materials to help enhance their learning.
