My students need these materials to become independent learners. The seat stacks will allow each student to have their own designated space for books, dry-erase boards, and the lap desks allow for flexible seating!
My classroom is in one of the top 10 most diverse elementary schools in the country. My students come from incredibly diverse cultural backgrounds and low socio-economic households. Any given year, the students in my classroom speak a total of 3-8 different languages, qualifying them as English language learners, or dual language learners. In the 2018-19 school year, I will be 'looping up' with my 2017-18 preschool students, which means we will be moving up to kindergarten together. This is a very special opportunity, because I have already developed positive relationships with the students and their families, and our class has already created a caring, cooperative learning environment.
My Project
The materials I have requested will be used by all students to perform independent tasks. The mobile name plates will allow me to assign student table groups, and change them throughout the school year. The hourglass timers will be used for students who need to take a brain break, or who may struggle with clean-up and transitions.
I am excited to provide a sense of ownership to the students by providing a personal storage space (the seat sacks)!
The seat sacks will allow the students to learn responsibility by storing chosen books, the requested dry-erase boards, and other independent work.
The floor lap desks allow flexible seating for students who need space to complete their work. Again, this is an opportunity to teach responsibility, as the students will have to explore their learning styles, and how they can do their hardest work.
