My students need the 6 iPod Shuffles to help with independent listening and reading goals. They would allow my students to have multiple books at their finger tips.
Do you remember the times of being read to? The trips you could take without ever leaving the classroom? Think of how awesome it would be to have an independent listening time where you could pick the story of your choice.
My class is an excited group of students.
We all come from different homes with different resources at hand. They attend a public school with a large population of 1700 students grades Pre-K to Fourth Grade. These kids have a love for learning and a love for school.
My Project
I am requesting iPod shuffles to be used as listening centers for my students. The iPod shuffles would allow students the chance to explore books that they can enjoy on their own. Hearing good examples of literature and fluent reading expands their vocabulary, builds stamina, and helps children become better readers. Students can take a shuffle to a quiet place in the classroom and follow along with a favorite book.
Having the multiple iPods will allow my large group of students to have an opportunity to be read to every day. This will provide the opportunity for more children to listen to books at once, and not to have to try to change the CD or tape. All the stories are right there on their iPod.
The donation of the iPods will help with students who may not have the opportunities to be read to at home.
They will help with the special needs of students who need more repetition than other students. Just the enjoyment alone of being read to makes them smile and their days brighter. The iPods will be able to be used for years to come with many students.
