My students need a storage shelf to organize their tasks.

As a special education teacher in a low income/high poverty district, my students face many challenges both in and outside of the classroom. Despite these challenges, my students never give up and it is my goal to show each and every one of them that I will never give up on them. Many of my students have been left behind not only academically, but socially. I work each day to provide my students with the tools and resources they need to close the achievement gap and to help them to become productive members of society.
If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn.
This is the motto my classroom runs on. I teach a self-contained classroom for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Every day, my students are working hard to learn academics, social skills, and hygiene routines in a safe and nurturing environment. My students learn new information and process the information in ways that may be different than their typically developing peers. I work diligently to understand each of my students and their unique needs and then plan a program that will work for them.
The students in my classroom have Autism Spectrum Disorder. My students learn information differently and process things differently. Routines, organization, and visual supports are key to my students daily functioning and success. To help them to succeed in class and in life, we focus a lot on independence which is the key to future employment and community engagement.
Each day my students complete independent work systems.
Organization is key to implementing this work system in my class. This shelf will help my students to follow a visual schedule and to complete assigned tasks that will be located in these color coded bins. The bins will house activities to help my students with math, reading, writing, social skills, fine motor skills, and compliance tasks. Doing these activities daily will help my students to build stamina, and will foster their ability to become independent.
