My Students
As a teacher in a small district with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch, I deal with many different issues and difficulties in the classroom every day. Despite the challenges my students face at school and at home, they are eager to learn participate in STEM activities.
My students have the desire to succeed, and I want to give them the skills they need to reach their goals.
They are creative, curious, and ambitious. I do not want to see their life circumstances or lack of opportunities hinder their future successes. By showing these tiny humans how math and science can be fun, creative, and useful, I am giving them those hard and soft skills they need to be successful big humans one day.
My Project
Students are fascinated with science, especially biology, but rarely do they get to see their learning in action. With the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), we do a lot of hands-on, exploratory learning that allows students to see the connection between the realms of science and their own lives.
This incubator will give my students the opportunity to watch science come to life - literally - right before their eyes.
They will learn about cells and body systems, and how cells progress and develop to create tissues, organs, and organisms. They will also get the unique opportunity to raise chicks and care for them, learning responsibility and compassion.
