Incredibly Up Close And Personal In The Science Classroom!
My students need an Elmo document camera and a slide set to learn and explore hands on and up close scientific topics.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is essential in math and science! But with the budget situation the way it is, we are very limited on what we can provide. To help me fulfill my goal of inspiring young mathematicians and scientists, I need engaging classroom activities and modern technological equipment.
I teach 7th and 8th grade science and math in a high poverty rural area with many migrant students.
Our school is an AVID school that works at building a college going culture amongst our students. We design our curriculum to include authentic learning experiences, CA standards based, and integrated curriculum. The recent economic situation has caused our school to restrict all spending on lab, technology, and supplies that we need to engage and teach our students. This has caused a giant obstacle for providing our students with hands-on materials for science and math class.
My Project
The ELMO allows every student a bird’s eye view of classroom demonstrations and manipulatives. There are many chemical reactions that can only be done as demonstrations due to safety concerns. Normally students struggle to see above students heads or even a lack of time for everyone to see and possibly investigate. The ELMO can zoom in on a petri dish and truly pull everyone into the excitement! The effect of seeing things like chemical reactions or demos on the smart board is a very engaging tool for students. It can be used like a microscope, bringing a slide of their cheek cells into view so that the entire class can follow along. Students can share and display their work for the entire class and capture images directly from the ELMO. When giving directions my students could follow my modeling of procedures step by step where all students can see what I am doing. This project is a Chevron Teacher Grant project.
With your support my children can explore the world around them and learn to guide themselves in their investigations safely.
They will form good research habits that will follow them the rest of their lives and possibly guide them to become a mathematician or scientist by profession. Thank you for all your support.
